Book : Sketching from the imagination

Book : Sketching from the imagination

We like to share with you insanely detailed final illustrations. But everyone knows it’s important to start with a great sketch. This latest is decisive for the final work. It allows the illustrator to quickly has an idea of the composition, the proportions and also the different plans of the work. In order to better understand the interest of sketching and to progress in this art, 3DTotal recently released Sketching from the Imagination.

In this 320 pages book, 50 talented artists explain their method and reveal anecdotes about some works. Each artist has between 6 and 8 pages to show his art and the size of the images is really appreciable (as usual with 3DTotal). Some sketchs fill an entire page so it’s perfect to analyse the strokes and the style of each artist. The selected artists have different styles, from the most minimalist to the most detailed. There are plenty of tips to learn.

Sketching from the imagination is definitely an interesting and complete book. It’s probably more about the “why” than the “how”. It’s a reminder of the importance of sketchs in the creative process and a great showcase of the best examples. Available for less than 30 $, it’s without doubt a great investment.
